Bhubaneswar, July 25: The Centre for Reproductive Medicine (CRM) at KIMS, known for its consistent success in assisted reproduction, celebrated World IVF Day with a strong message of fertility awareness and hope. With an impressive 58 per cent success rate and more than 5,000 infertility cases handled since its inception in 2017, the centre continues to lead the way in infertility treatment in Odisha.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Mousumi Acharya, Chief Infertility Consultant at CRM, highlighted the journey and achievements of the centre. “Our IVF journey at KIMS started in 2017, inspired by the vision of Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS. Today, we proudly offer world-class care, equipped with the latest technology and procedures introduced for the first time in Bhubaneswar,” she said.

The CRM team also announced the launch of a fellowship programme in reproductive medicine, aimed at training the next generation of fertility experts. Dr. Acharya emphasized that the centre’s results are not just consistent but patient-driven, with many voluntarily returning to share their success stories.

Dr. (Prof.) R.C. Das, Dean and Principal of KIMS, added a touch of emotion by sharing that the first IVF success child of the centre was present on the occasion, stating, “We are not just creating treatments; we are creating life.”

Prof. Jyotsnamayee Panda, HoD, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, pointed out that reproductive science is fast evolving. “We are now progressing from IVF to IVG (in-vitro gametogenesis), and such advanced research must be validated through awareness so that it can benefit society.”

The event was held in association with the KIMS School of Nursing (KINS). Prof. Niyati Das, Principal of KINS, highlighted the pivotal role nurses play in infertility care — as counsellors, advocates, and collaborators. “Nurses bring emotional strength to the process, which is often as important as medical intervention,” she said.

Media anchor and writer Kalpana Mishra, delivering a powerful talk titled “By a Mother to a Mother”, stressed the need for breaking gender stereotypes around infertility. “There is still a lack of awareness that infertility is not only a woman’s issue. Also, many are still unaware that advanced IVF treatment is now available right here in Odisha.”

The celebration included debate competitions between MBBS and Nursing students on themes like social egg freezing and career ambitions vs biological clock, followed by a short podcast presented by postgraduate students on IVF patient stories. In an emotional moment, proud IVF mothers shared their journey of hope and determination, and an IVF child performed a dance, symbolizing the joy and possibilities that modern medicine brings.
